Fiber Characteristics

CASHMERE

Natural Fiber - made from the fleece of Kashmir goats.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Outstanding softness.
  • Very luxurious
  • Very drapeable
  • Expensive
  • Shorter cashmere fibers may pill

MAJOR END USES:

  • Apparel - sweaters, socks, accessories, shawls, coats, and suits
  • Home Fashions - Blankets, throws

Comments - Cashmere fibers range in length from 1-1/4 inch to 3-1/2 inch in length. Since the fleece from 4 to 6 animals is typically needed to make one sweater, cashmere tends to be expensive. Therefore, dry cleaning is preferable.
