Design takes on a deeper meaning when the inspiration comes from the creator's heart and soul. The notion that a single painted image can convey the spirit and a feeling in a very expressive way is the essence of what Rhonda Swenson, Krimson Klover's founder and owner, achieves through her women's collection of high-quality, hand-painted knitted apparel. Each one-of-a-kind garment reflects the individual personality and emotions of the creative artist, making every piece unique with subtle variations and a part of every garment made.
The Collection
Krimson Klover, based in Boulder, CO, is a year-round sophisticated collection of lifestyle apparel for work, travel, fun and sport. The hand-painted garments are available in a variety of silhouettes, depending on the season. "The line features everything from ponchos, shapely tunics, and flirty swing dresses, to long-sleeve tees," notes Swenson."But, regardless of the style, each hand-painted design is elegantly suited for each individual garment."
Crafted from sustainably sourced luxury fabrics, the hand-painted collection offers comfort inmodern styling that incorporates a rich color palette and original artwork in timeless fashion motifs. Swenson says the inspiration comes from a variety of sources. Through travel, the design team has found amazing textiles from different cultures, which provides great ideas for print and color. She explains, "I was in Japan recently, and |
acquired new ideas that will be evident in our upcoming seasons. In our hand-painted group, we tend to stay very organic in our designs–using florals, watercolors, and plant-based ideas."
The Yarns / Fabrics
The hand-painted collection incorporates the use of sustainable natural yarns and sustainable blended yarns including: Merino wool / viscose blends; Merino / silk blends; viscose /Lycra® blends; pima cotton / Lycra blends; linen / Lycra blends; and linen / nylon blends. The fabrics are dry cleanable, or can be hand-washed or machine-washed separately in cold water (no bleach), dried flat, and ironed on the reverse side on a low temperature.

The Hand-Painting Design Process
The factory specializing in this technique evolved from a brother and sister partnership, fusing their knowledge of knitwear, sourcing, and production with their creativity of fine art. The staff of over 400 trained artists carefully hand paint each design, using elaborate brush-strokes and uneven drawing marks, which reflects the individual personality and emotions of the individual artist. These subtle differences give each garment a personal touch that adds to the charm and beauty of each piece.
Swenson says, "Each artist has their own personal handwriting, which we believe gives every garment its spirit and soul." |
