Take me to your leader! This easy, no sew costume combines two classic
fasteners—VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back™ and duct tape for a costume that's out of this world.
Materials: On hand:Sweatshirt and pants that fit
Glue
1 – 2 paper grocery bags Supplies needed: 1 yard VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back™
2 sheets poster board, 22 x 28 inches
Silver duct tape
Cut open grocery bag to use for making pattern shapes. Using scale and pattern provided, draw body armor shape on paper bag. (Body Armor pattern). In same manner, draw shoulder and helmet shapes on paper bag. (Shoulder & Helmet patterns). Make sure to fold paper to cut helmet double size. Use pattern shapes to cut pieces from poster board. Trim back panel of body armor along hip line. Cut out eye opening on helmet.
Cover each piece with duct tape and wrap neatly around edges to the back side.
On the outside of front and back, apply loop side of VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back fastener to the underlap area as shown. Apply corresponding hook tape to under side of shoulder as shown. Press shoulders in place over front and back.
For a side belt, cut 2 pieces of duct tape, each 12 inches long and press sticky sides together. Tape one end to under side of armor front at the waist. Apply VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back fastener to opposite end and under side of armor back to hold sides together. Repeat the same process and make a belt for the other side. (Diam. SR-1).
Apply VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back fastener along the short ends of the helmet to over lap at the back and fit comfortably around the face. Cut 2 pieces of duct tape each 13 inches long. Press sticky sides together to make a head strap. Tape one end to the inside of the helmet on one side. Apply VELCRO® Brand Sticky Back fastener to the opposite end and inside the helmet to fit over top of the head. (Diag. SR-2.)
Cut 1/2 inch wide strips of leftover poster board and glue to body armor and helmet, decorating as desired.
