Cut circles of lightweight fabric, which are about double the diameter of each snap. Make a small hold in the center so that the snaps will snap closed.
Run a basting stitch around the edge of the fabric. Place half of the snap in the center and use hand-basting stitches to gather the fabric snuggly around the snap. Secure the fabric on the wrong side.
Stitch the snap to the garment in the usual way. You'll be able to find the holes in the snap with your needle.
