50s Glamour Doll Costume

 

poodle skirtMaterials:

1-1/2 yards pink satin fabric
10" X 10" gray felt
10" X 10" gray fluffy felt
one google eye
one black pompom
1-1/2 yards pink pearls (sold on strip)
5" strip VELCRO® brand STICKY BACK® tape
1 yard pf fusible bonding material
fabric glue
Fray Check for skirt edge (to prevent raveling)
elastic pony tail holder

 

Instructions

Skirt: Draw a 32" circle pattern on wrong side of pink satin fabric, apply Fray Check around circle’s edge, let dry and cut out 32" circle. Cut out a 7-1/2" circle at center of circle for waist. To make waistband, cut a satin strip 28" X 2-1/2" and fold in 1/2" top and bottom lengthwise. Allow a 3" overlap at waistband, glue waistband to circle waist, using a 3" strip of STICKY BACK® tape at waist for closure. Cut out poodle in felt, glue on fury felt shapes, add eyes and pompom nose.

poodle skirt costumeCollar: Iron fusible bonding material to satin fabric, cut out two collar patterns and fuse them together. Glue pearl strip around collar edge and add a 1" strip of STICKY BACK® tape for a closure.

Hair Bow: Cut out a 19" X 7-1/2" wide piece of satin, fold lengthwise and overlap till the fabric for the bow is a 19" X 3" wide strip. Fold each end into the center to create a bow. To tie up the bow, cut a piece of satin 5" X 3", fold in 1/2" on each side and glue. Wrap around bow middle to gather it in. For a finishing touch, attach a bow to ponytail holder with STICKY BACK® tape. Add sweater or a tee shirt top.
