Welt

The welt can serve as a self-knitted trim pattern on a knitted garment. The construction of the welt is programmed into the knitting machine, and is a variation of the rib knitting process. The creation of this raised row or band of stitches forms a stripe, or a raised/tucked ridge on a knitted garment or on a knitted collar. The welt can be further emphasized as a trim on the garment by using contrasting yarn colors for the welted area.
