Sewing & Crafts | Hem Finishes | Lace Hem

Special Finishing Details

LACE HEM

  • Lace Hem A facing made of a tulle strip is practically invisible when used to hem a lace fabric. Cut a tulle strip 2½â€ wide on the straight grain (tulle has more “giveâ€ on the straight grain than on the bias).
  • Fold strip in half lengthwise. Stitch strip to garment edge, raw edges matching, with a 5/8â€ seam allowance. In seam allowance, make a second line of stitching 1/8â€ from the first line. Trim off seam allowance close to stitching. Turn and press tulle to wrong side at seam line, and slip-stitch fold to lace.
